TL;DR
CDL General Knowledge (New Jersey): a 124-question practice bank for the real CDL Permit & Endorsement Exams standard, 2 full papers of 50 questions each with no repeats, every question citing the real regulation it comes from.
Where these questions come from
Every question in this bank cites a real source -- primarily FMCSA CDL Manual (77%) and 49 CFR (23%) of this exam's citations.
Real New Jersey CDL requirements
The knowledge tested here is federal (FMCSA) and identical nationwide -- what varies by state is who administers it and under what terms. Researched directly from New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJ MVC)'s own site, verified 2026-09-03.
CDL license fee
$42 for a 4-year CDL, plus $2 per endorsement
Minimum CLP hold before road test
14 days (unless waived) — official MVC text: 'Unless waived, CLP holders must wait a minimum of 14 days before taking the skills test.'
Retake wait after a failed knowledge test
Knowledge test: 7-day wait after failure. Road/skills test: at least 14 days (2 weeks) wait after failure. NOTE: an internal inconsistency exists across official MVC pages regarding test-score validity — one page states the $125 test receipt is valid for 180 days, another states test scores are valid for 360 days; this discrepancy is unresolved and should be re-verified before publishing.
Spanish-language knowledge test
Available
Confirmed via official NJ MVC CDL FAQ page: 'It is administered in Spanish, or English with the exception of the HAZMAT endorsement test. The HAZMAT test is administered in English only.' Note that CDL testing is limited to English and Spanish only — NOT the full multilingual list (Arabic, Chinese, French, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Hindi, Albanian, Turkish) that NJ offers for its REGULAR non-commercial license test. No evidence of a 2025/2026 change was found; recommend re-verifying close to publish date given the active federal English Language Proficiency enforcement climate, since the source page carries no visible 'last updated' date.
- CDL renewal must be completed in person at a motor vehicle agency — mail renewal is not an option.
- Applicants under 21 may only operate in intrastate (NJ-only) commerce and cannot receive HazMat or passenger endorsements.
- Effective September 1, 2026, a fingerprint receipt and/or completed background-check results will be required at CLP issuance for anyone requesting a Passenger (P) endorsement.
- The $125 knowledge-test fee is described as a non-refundable 'commercial examination test receipt fee,' distinct from the CDL license issuance fee.
